Tim Podell
is the president and creative director of Tim Podell Productions.
He founded the Westchester County, NY-based educational videotape
production company in 1991.
Tim's production
career began in public access television, where he produced several
shows, including "Kids on Cable" in New York. A reporter and producer
since 1989, he was a featured reporter on "Meet the Mayor," a Yonkers,
NY, television program, for five years, and was a reporter on "BronxNet
News" in New York in 1995.
Tim began as
a magician, performing throughout New York at corporate events,
night clubs and children's parties. In 1986, just as he was embarking
on a television production career, he suffered a debilitating stroke
that paralyzed his right side and seriously damaged his speaking
and memory functions at age 24. After seven months in the hospital
and two years of therapy, he returned to performing.
He also resumed
his interest in production, realizing an opportunity to give a voice
to the authors of popular children's books by producing videotapes
that let these authors speak directly to their readers. Combining
his passion for performance, education and children, he founded
Tim Podell Productions in 1991.
Today,Tim regularly
travels the world to conduct and produce tapes of interviews with
authors in their hometowns. In 1996, he expanded the offerings of
Tim Podell Productions to include a series for high school students
called, "Careers in the 21st Century." In 2002 he expanded his
offerings to include the "All About the Book!" video
series -- in depth video guides to classic children's literature.
Tim received
a degree in psychology from the State University of New York at
Purchase. A native of Briarcliff Manor, NY, Tim now lives
in Ossining, NY.
