  • Ann M. Martin’s book,  “A Corner of the Universe,” tells the story of a family secret. The author says that people who keep these secrets believe the rest of the world won’t understand and explains that keeping a family secret can be very painful. Discuss the idea of family secrets with your class. 

  • The interviewer asks Ann M. Martin what makes a family — and what makes a family strong. Discuss her answers. The teacher will put the word “family” on the board. The class will write a short essay on their interpretation of what is a family.
