Topics for classroom discussion and assignments:

  • Karen Hesse says that when each car passes by her, she imagines what the lives of the people in the car might be like. When you leave school, look into a passing car, and then go home and write a story about the people in that car: who they are, where they live, what their lives are like.
  • The author talks about the slow pace and benefits of a small town. Discuss and write about your city or town, what you like about it, and what you wish were different.

Teachers and librarians, submit your own topics:

If you're a teacher or librarian, you're invited to submit a topic for classroom discussion or an interesting assignment. If we add your submission to the list above, you'll receive a Professional Letter of Recognition from us along with a goodconversations.com gift.
